9/29/2008 11:29:15 AM

The WNMU Student-Athlete Advisory Council will be honoring the university’s faculty during the football game against Adams State on Saturday, October 4, at Ben Altamirano Field. The Mustangs and Grizzlies kick off at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free for all faculty with WNMU IDs. Faculty will receive a coupon at the gate for one free medium popcorn and one free medium soda at the Fox Complex concession stand courtesy of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Andrew Warren, visiting Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, has been selected to be WNMU’s guest coach on Saturday. Warren is a graduate of the University of Kansas, Fort Hays State University, and Washburn University Law School. He has been at WNMU since January 2006 in the Criminal Justice Department where he has special responsibility for the establishment and development of the online criminal justice degree. Warren will stand on the sidelines with the team and be part of the team’s timeout huddles, both on the field and in the locker room.

In addition, members of the Board of Regents, the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning, also known as WILL, and the Ft. Bayard Historical Preservation Society and Board will be recognized at halftime. WILL is a grass-roots organization created by Grant County residents and is now a part of Western New Mexico University in Silver City. The program approaches learning as a lifetime adventure for continued intellectual discovery in a supportive, expansive, and informal learning environment. WILL is for those 50 years and older, although they encourage eager learners of any age to join. Members bring talents and extensive life experience to WILL, making the courses and social experiences enlivened places to learn.

The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society is committed to the preservation of the U.S. Army Military history during the settlement of the southwest from 1866-1899 and the medical heritage in combating pulmonary tuberculosis as a U.S. Army Hospital, Public Health Hospital, and Veteran’s Center from the 1900 through 1965. The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society keeps history alive through Living History Programs and cultural events which interpret the history of Fort Bayard as part of an on-going story of Grant County from 1866-1965.
