Men's Tennis Gets Ready For ITA Central Region Championship

Sophomore Kyle Lynch
The Wilson/ITA women's and men's Central Region Championships will feature the top Division II schools in the region. The Central Region consists of the RMAC and NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference). WNMU's Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School), Devin Stroman (Silver City, NM, Silver High School), Yoeri VanSpeybroeck (Nevele, Belgium, Viy Handels en Sport Institoot), and Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) will all participate in the event.

Banuelos and Lynch are seeded no. 1 and no. 2 respectively. The two are paired together for doubles action where they sit in the second seed. Stroman and Van Speybroeck will team up together for the 12th spot. Stroman will play on his own in the 20th spot. Van Speybroeck is seeded no. 42.

The singles and doubles champions from both Central Region tournaments advance to the October 15-18 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.

The ITA National Small College Championships began in 1986 and annually crowns men's and women's singles and doubles national champions in each of the ITA's four small college divisions (NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community College). These championships are the only national tournaments for singles and doubles at the NCAA Division II and NAIA level, and the only tournaments that combine the levels of Junior/Community Colleges (NJCAA and the California schools).

Participants are determined through these Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, which serve as qualifying tournaments. The national champions from each division square off in the "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis to determine the overall ITA National Small College Champions (who then earn berths into the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, a Division I event, in November).
