For the second year in a row, the WNMU men's cross country team finished ninth while the women finished 12th at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Washington Park in Denver, Colorado.
Adam's State repeated their victory as they captured the title for both the men and women. The Adams State women's team contributed to four out of the top ten spots. The men posted seven runners in the top ten. Crossing the finish line first for Adams State was Reuben Mwei with a time of 24:42 in the 8K run. On the women's side, Kristen McGlynn of Adams State took home the crown with a time of 22:25 in the 6K race. Both Mwei and McGlynn were honored as the RMAC Men's Runner of the Year and the RMAC Women's Runner of the Year respectively.
WNMU freshman
Nicole Luna (Pueblo of Laguna, NM, Laguna-Acoma High School) finished first for the Mustangs, posting a time of 27:27, good for 66th. Crossing the finish line next was Junior
Cassandra Sanchez (Acoma Pueblo, NM, Laguna Acoma High School) with a time of 28:02, which earned her 71st place.
Amy Roybal (Pojoaque Valley, NM, Pojoaque Valley High School) and
Sheilah Koskey (Eldoret, Kenya, Moi Forces Academy) were the next two runners in with times of 29:18 and 29:49 respectively. First time runner
Kristina Barr (San Diego, CA, La Costa Canyon High School, Central Community College) posted a time of 30:11.
On the men's side for the Mustangs, senior
Kempton Jackson (Gallup, NM, Gallup High School) came in 36th out of 84 runners with a time 27:40. With a time of 29:27 and a 60th place finish,
Matt Snay (Kingman, AZ, Kingman High School, Mohave Community College) finished next for WNMU.
Beating his time from last year's RMAC championships,
Donavan Jackson (Gallup, NM, Gallup High School) recorded a time of 30:03, good for 62nd place. Finishing 66th and 67th was
Tyler Pino (Acoma Pueblo, NM, Laguna-Acoma High School) and
Wilton Atkins (Wanganui, New Zealand, Wanganui Collegiate School, University of North Alabama). Atkins finished 15 seconds after Pino.
