The men's tennis team has represented the Mustangs well at the ITA Central Region. On Friday, WNMU lost only one singles match and one doubles match. WNMU then forced a few upsets on Saturday.

Day one was played indoors due to difficult weather conditions, but it didn't hamper the Mustangs' drive and determination. Yoeri VanSpeybroeck (Nevele, Belgium, Viy Handels en Sport Institoot) defeated both of his opponents in convincing fashion. “Yoeri played very well with several strong wins,” says head coach Erik Burton.

VanSpeybroek then upset No. 3 Jordan Chomko from Mesa State, 3-6, 7-5, (10-2) on Saturday. He finished out the day with another close match but fell short. “Yoeir has been competing very well of late, and this experience will help him for the spring competition,” states Burton.

Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) and Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) proved to be a good pair. On Friday, they defeated CSU – Pueblo, 8-4, and then pounced on Mesa State in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. They will now participate in the doubles main draw Sunday.

Both Banuelos and Lynch also advanced to the semifinal round.
