Crichton Comes Up One Shot Short in Scottish Youths Championship
Crichton Action 2
WNMU Senior Scott Crichton
Despite a closing round one-under-par 71, WNMU's Scott Crichton (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) came up one shot shy of the winner's trophy in the prestigious Scottish Youth's Championship Sunday at Renfrew Golf Club. Crichton birdied the last hole of the competition, but it wasn't enough to catch Angus Cappi who plays out of world famous Carnoustie Golf Club. Cappi shot rounds of 72-71-73-71 (E) to Crichton's 70-76-72-71 (+1) for the championship in the 118-player field.

Crichton's undoing in the tournament came in round two, where he recorded two double-bogeys en-route to a four-over 76. That tally is highly unusual for the Mustang senior-to-be who is a magician with his short-game. The 2008 All-American selection has led WNMU in scoring for the past two season. Crichton was also the RMAC Academic Player of the Year in 2008-09 with a 4.0 GPA in molecular cell biology.

"Scott did a great job under really difficult conditions," said WNMU Golf Coach Kent Beatty. "He is so solid and really doesn't beat himself. The field in the under-21s is the equivalent to the a national championship, so he, and we, have a lot to be proud of."

WNMU's Steven Maxwell (JR./Glasgow, Scotland) also was in the championship field, shooting rounds of 77-75-76-76 (+16) to finish tied for 36th.
