The National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams for Division I, II, and III were announced today with a total of 410 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. WNMU’s Carissa Schwalm was one of these student-athletes.
Schwalm had the team’s lowest stroke average this season with an 83.11 average. Her best tournament came at the beginning of the season at the first RMAC event. Schwalm followed the 82 she shot on the first day with a 76 on the second day, just four-over par. She tied for first in that tournament. Overall, she finished the season with seven birdies after 19 rounds of play.
Schwalm was named to the All-RMAC First Team, RMAC All-Academic First Team, and the RMAC All-Tournament Team this spring. She also was named RMAC Golfer of the Week last September.
The sophomore is a movement science major and has a perfect 4.0 after three semesters.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting, and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
