Hannes to Join Tennis Staff

New Graduate Assistant Carolina Hannes
A 2008 graduate from University of Northern Iowa (UNI), Carolina Hannes will join the Mustang coaching staff in mid-August as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's tennis programs. Hannes brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her. Currently, she is employed at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, North Carolina where she is an assistant tennis pro. She teaches private lessons for every age and level and has put on intermediate and advanced clinics.

While at UNI, Hannes broke the school women's tennis record for the most singles wins in a career with 86 wins. She was named to the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team and placed on the ITA All-Academic Team three years in a row (2005, 2006, 2007).

In 2008, Hannes did a coaching internship at Cedar Falls High School in Iowa. It was not in the sport of tennis however. It was for the girl's varsity soccer team. Hannes was a member of the Esperia Club soccer team, which made it to state tournaments, in her home country of Brazil. She played with the same club in the sport of tennis, attending state and national tournament events.

Hannes also did a coaching practicum with the UNI women's soccer team. Overall, it gave her a new understand of what it is to be a coach and its responsibilities. She also realized the importance of a good and respectful relationship between coaches and players.

Hannes will attend classes in the fall to work towards her Master of Business Administration degree.
