Joining the Mustang volleyball staff this January, AJ Valoff will assist head coach Jim Callendar. Valoff graduated in December of 2009 from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Sports Science.
While attending the University of Idaho, Valoff was a member of the men's club volleyball team and served as the vice president for one year. During his playing time, he primarily played libero and outside hitter.
He also worked with the Moscow High School's varsity program during their preparation for the district and state tournament. Valoff spent the majority of his time with the outside hitters, providing them with feedback on their offensive game plan and defensive alignments. Going over how to read a defense and how to recognize opposing players' strengths and weaknesses were Valoff's main focuses during his time at Moscow.
Valoff has also volunteered with the University of Idaho volleyball program's youth camps. At the youth camps, he worked with the coaches as needed and provided coaching for the younger players.
The graduate student has been around athletics his entire life and would like to continue working with athletics well into the future. He recently was the assistant varsity softball coach for Moscow High School as well as a head junior high volleyball coach in Idaho.
Valoff feels that collegiate athletics is the next stepping stone in his coaching career. “I feel my leadership experience, education, and coaching experiences have equipped me with the tools necessary to have success in this program,” comments Valoff.
