Playing in their 13th match of the season, the University of Idaho Vandals showed their experience against the WNMU Mustangs. WNMU fell, 6-1, in their fourth match of 2010 and dropping their last three.
“The Mustangs came out very strong in doubles,” says head coach Erik Burton. At the No. 1 doubles spot,
Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) and
Henning Thrien (Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Carl Friedrick Gaus Gymnasium, Hope International University) had a 5-2 lead, but slowly the Vandals got back into it. Lachlan Reed and Adrian Simon forced extra points and won, 9-8.
Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) and
Flavio Rueda (Mazatlan, Mexico, Universidad Autonoma de Durango, Riverside Community College), holding the No. 2 doubles position, were tied at six. Idaho scored two consecutive points to post another tally on Idaho's side.
“I can't be upset with these men today,” continues Burton. “This is only our fourth match of the season.”
Banuelos marked the Mustangs' only point of the day, taking the No. 1 singles win, 10-6, in the third set tiebreaker.
