Mustangs To Host RMAC Tournament

The WNMU tennis teams host the RMAC Tennis Championships this weekend at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “We are looking forward to this weekend,” says assistant coach Carolina Hannes.

They should. The men's team was awarded the No. 1 seed in the tournament after capturing the regular season title and being ranked No. 35 in the nation. For this, they receive a bye in the first round and face the winner of the Friday morning No. 4 Montana State-Billings/No. 5 Metro State College matchup. WNMU's first match then will be in the semifinals Friday at 4:30 p.m. The finals will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

The women's team received the No. 3 seed at the tournament, behind the University of Nebraska – Kearney and Mesa State College, and face No. 6 seed CSU – Pueblo in the first round on Friday.

The Mustangs posted only two losses in conference play this season. Both were close matches to the No. 1 and 2 seed. “We definitely have chances to beat them this time,” comments Hannes.

If the Mustangs win their quarterfinal, they will play the winner of No. 2 Mesa State College/No. 7 Colorado Christian University Friday at 2:00 p.m. The finals will coincide with the men's final on Saturday.
