The NCAA announced today the two championship fields for the men's and women's tennis tournaments. Three RMAC men's tennis teams, including WNMU, made the four-team Central Regional Tournament, while two of the six women's tennis teams earned a spot in the women's tournament.
On the men's side, Western New Mexico (15-6) will host Nebraska-Kearney (14-8) in Silver City at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6. St. Cloud State (11-10) will travel to Grand Junction, Colorado to face Mesa State.
The NCAA Central Region men's bracket was shortened to four teams instead of six because there were only four teams with a .500 record or better. The winner from each site will advance to the Sweet 16 Tournament May 12-15 at Sanlando Tennis Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Western New Mexico finished the season as the RMAC regular season and tournament champions. This is Nebraska-Kearney's sixth appearance in the NCAA DII post-season tournament in the last nine years.
In the women's field, Nebraska-Kearney (16-5) will play May 8 between the Friday's winner of Augustana (20-1) and Upper Iowa (10-5). Mesa State will travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota to face Winona State (13-7). The winner of that match will play host St. Cloud State. Like the men, the winner from each site will advance to the Sweet 16 Tournament May 12-15 at Sanlando Tennis Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
