RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the Director of Athletics, assists in planning, developing, and coordinating the football program to ensure compliance with all NCAA and other accrediting association's requirements for college sports. Plans and develops the athletic program of a specific men's or women's intercollegiate sport i.e.: volleyball, football, golf, and/or tennis to ensure compliance with established guidelines and regulations for college/university accredited events; develops and implements schedules including practice, home, and away competitions to provide participating students appropriate training and academic time for continued program eligibility and personal growth. Recruits prospective athletes through personal visits, telephone interviews, and mail solicitation in accordance with established NCAA requirements and standards; discusses personal scholastic and athletic goals/objectives with available opportunities as the University; identifies and recommends potential recruits for available financial assistance through scholarships; coordinates/schedules site visits for prospective recruits, parents, and other interested parties. Monitors academic performance levels of all participating student athletes to ensure compliance with established university and accrediting standards for class attendance and grade performance; counsels and assists students regarding study habits an class performance to promote and encourage continued program eligibility and attainment of degree status; plans, develops, and implements a variety of fund raising events for financial/equipment contributions. Works cooperatively with other conference schools for development of intercollegiate events; arranges travel requirements including meals, lodging, and transportation for athletes in accordance with available funding/budget constraints; coaches students throughout all games, reviews strategies, strengths, and weaknesses of previous, current, and future performance to promote and encourage personal and/or team improvement. Completes/maintains a variety of records and reports of achievements and activities; provides information and/or statistics to the University's media as well as other local/regional media i.e.: radio, print, and television to promote awareness of Western New Mexico University's athletic programs, students, and environment; monitors inventory levels of all uniforms and equipment, prepares purchase requisitions and bid requests; prepares/monitors operating budget; and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with experience equivalent to five years coaching at a college level with responsibility for game management and recruiting. Master's degree in Athletics, Physical Education, or closely related field may substitute for two years professional experience. Proficiency in Spanish and professional experience with diverse groups preferred. CDL License or the ability to obtain upon completion of requirements within one year of hire.
SALARY: $45,000 Annually
