Over the past year, two committees, composed of both WNMU faculty and staff, put together a new athletics graduation success strategic plan and a new athletics gender equity strategic plan. To kick off the new initiatives set forth in those plans, the Western New Mexico University Department of Athletics will be launching a new marketing campaign titled “one team. one goal.” T-shirts for this campaign are now available for $5.00 each.
The “one team. one goal.” tagline will be incorporated into all marketing and promotional activities over the next year including all media guides, student-athlete handbooks, staff handbooks, pocket schedules, website advertisements, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee shirts, athletic administration polos, clothing sold at home events, and select student-athlete apparel during the 2010-2011 seasons.
“This statement will support the committees' goals toward graduation success and gender equity while also supporting the WNMU mission statement, the department's mission statement, and the NCAA Division II positioning statement,” says director of athletics Scott Woodard.
Each sentence in the tagline represents each of the new strategic plans:
one team.
• Demonstrates the commitment to achieve gender equity.
• Communicates the university's commitment to the core values of diversity and equity to all communities.
• Fosters mutual respect, value differences, and promotes cross-cultural understanding.
• Upholds an atmosphere of open discussion where all feel safe addressing diversity and gender issues.
• Communicates the experience of diverse students at WNMU to reinforce the unique identity of our campus.
• Encourages interaction among diverse people to enrich the educational experience.
• Promotes personal growth.
• Enhances the community.
one goal.
• Demonstrates the commitment of balance between the participation in high-level athletic competition without an overemphasis of sports in student life.
• Emphasizes the importance of broader experiences, skills and knowledge as resources for the future.
• Incorporates educational mission and graduation success of student-athletes on their path towards graduation.
