COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team was tabbed to finish fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
The Mustangs went 3-3 in the conference last year to finish fourth and received 20 points in the poll, along with one first-place vote. Nebraska-Kearney is the top selection with seven points and five first-place votes, followed by Colorado Mesa and Metro State.
Being named to the Preseason All-Conference Team was both senior
Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) and freshman
Ganna Tiurina (Kiev, Ukraine/M.M. Gromov #227). Colorado Mesa's Kellen Sera was voted as the Preseason Player of the Year.
Vukadin went 7-13 last year, going 4-2 in the top flight position and was 3-11 in the No. 2 slot. She also spent time in doubles action, going 4-19.
Tiurina will look to make an impact right away as an incoming freshman.
WNMU will open the season on Feb. 2 in Tucson against Pima Junior College.
