LEESBURG, Va. – Western New Mexico University senior wide receiver
Marquis Sumpter (Oceanside/Falbrook Union HS) was named to the Third-Team Beyond Sports Network All-American squad Wednesday.
Sumpter entered the list as an honorable mention selection in the preseason.
He ended up leading the RMAC in all major receiving categories including yards per game (107.3) and receiving touchdowns (13). He played and started all 11 games this season amassing 1,180 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. He collected four, 100-plus receiving games this season, including a high of 176 against Western State, in that same game he also had his top touchdown performance of three. He caught 11 passes twice (Black Hills State and Colorado Mines).
He ranks nationally in several categories including ninth in receiving yards per game, and 22
nd in receptions per game. He was named to the First-Team All-RMAC Team this season after being selected to the Preseason All-RMAC Offensive squad. He was a First-Team All-RMAC recipient as a junior. For his career, he had 29 touchdowns and 2,458 receiving yards.
