INDIANAPOLIS – The Western New Mexico University volleyball team moved up two spots in the latest South Central Region rankings to seventh.
WNMU debuted at No. 9 in the rankings last week and after going 2-0 with one of the wins coming against Colorado Mesa who was ahead of the Lady Mustangs at the time of last week's rankings, helped them move up.
The Lady Mustangs have won four straight and close the regular season this weekend at home against Adams State on Friday and Western State on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. inside Drag's Court.
Colorado Mines is first in the region with a 20-2 in-region mark, moving up from the second slot. West Texas A&M, who holds the best in-region record at 25-1, jumps to No. 2. Angelo State slips to third with a 19-4 in-region mark, while Regis in now No. 4 with a 14-8 mark. Rounding out the top-five, Texas Woman's out of the Lone Star is fifth with an 18-6 record. Metro State is one ahead of WNMU is sixth with a 15-9 mark. Three RMAC schools round out the top-10 with Colorado Mesa eighth with a 19-7 record, Adams State ninth with a 13-8 record and Colorado Christian in 10
th with a 16-10 record.
The top eight teams advance to the South Central Regionals, with the three conferences (RMAC, Lone Star and Heartland) accounting for the conferences in the region with the tournament winners receiving automatic bids. The other five will be chosen at-large by seeding.
