WNMU's all-everything men's golfer Scott Crichton fought hard to make it to the top 64 in the 288-player field in the British Amateur, but his dream was cut short in his second match as he was defeated 3 & 2. The 22-year-old Crichton, who shot 68 Tuesday around Muirfiield Golf Links, fell to England's Billy Hernstock. Muirfield is in the British Open rotation and has seen such winners as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watso,n and Lee Trevino in years past

WNMU's Scott Crichton followed Monday's first round 74 (+3) with a 68 (-3) Tuesday to advance to the match play portion of the 288-player British Amateur Golf Championship at the famed Muirfield Golf Links in Scotland. The 22-year-old, who will finish his degree in December at WNMU, had to play an additional match Wednesday morning to make the final field of 64 and defeated his opponent 3 and 2. The championship will see players play 36 holes per day, if they continue to win through Sunday, when the champion is crowned.
