Mustangs Expected to Finish Ninth, Barr Named to Preseason Team

Metro State College is picked to win the RMAC regular season softball title, according to a poll of the 12 head coaches in the conference. The Roadrunners landed four players on the preseason all-conference team. Western New Mexico University and the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs are both expected to finish ninth. Mustang senior Kristina Barr (San Diego, CA, La Costa Canyon High School, Central Community College) landed a place on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

Mesa State is picked to win the West Division, and is second overall.

Regis is predicted to finish third. They are led by Preseason Player of the Year Alisa Heronema.

CSU-Pueblo is expected to finish fourth. Colorado Mines is picked fifth, followed by Adams State, Fort Lewis and Nebraska-Kearney. Chadron State and New Mexico Highlands round out the poll.

For the Mustangs, Barr played and started in every game last season (48-48) at shortstop. She finished the season towards the top of nearly every RMAC hitting category. She was fourth in batting average with .480, second in slugging percentage at .908, number two in on base percentage with .534, ninth in hits with 73, fourth in homeruns with 16, and number five in total bases with 138. Defensively, Barr posted 114 assists. In addition, Barr led the Mustangs in nearly every category including 50 RBIs.

Barr finished the season with Second Team All-American honors along with a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II First Team All-Central Region, Daktronics, Inc. All-Central Region First Team, and First Team All-RMAC.

The RMAC softball championships will be played May 6-8. The top team with approximately three weeks remaining in the regular season and a bid accepted by the RMAC Championships Committee will host the tournament. The top eight teams qualify for the double elimination tournament.
