Mustangs Improve Scores

Assistant Coach Kristen Kennedy With Player Glynnis Price
The Mustangs are getting better each day in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship (349-344-335). WNMU shaved off another nine shots off of their Thursday score. On Thursday, the Mustangs trimmed off five. Top-ranked Nova Southeastern is one round away from consecutive titles with a 296 (12-over-par) Friday and has a three-round total of 879. It holds a 35-shot lead in the team competition over Rollins (914).

The final round of the 72-hole tournament is Saturday with opening tee times set for 7:30 a.m. PDT.

While NSU has pulled away in the team contest, Newberry College sophomore Maria Luz Besio hasn't been able to shake NSU's Sandra Changkija.

Besio shot 2-under-par 69 Friday and is 5-under par for the tournament. Changkija is four strokes back. She trailed by as much as seven, but had three birdies and nine pars on her final 12 holes.

Nova Southeastern has four players in the top 10 and all five in the top 13. No other team has more than one player in the top 10 and only Tarleton State and Florida Southern have more than one player in the top 13.

In the race for runner-up, Rollins has an eight-stroke lead over Florida Southern and Tarleton State. Sonoma State is fifth and only nine shots behind Rollins.

WNMU's Carissa Schwalm (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School) and Glynnis Price (Shiprock, NM, Shiprock High School, University of New Mexico) finally produced their more regular numbers Friday. Schwalm finished the third round 9-above par 80. Price broke the 70s with a 77, 6-above par.
