Western New Mexico's men's golf team climbed from 11th place after one round to fifth Wednesday at the halfway mark at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship in Noblesville, Indiana. WNMU posted the third lowest score of the day to move up the ladder and are within striking distance of No. 3 Florida Southern who hold the top spot at +19. WNMU shot rounds of 314 and 294 (+32) while Florida Southern recorded rounds of 303 and 292 at the challenging par 72 Jack Nicklaus designed Sagamore Golf Club.

No. 14 Sonoma State, the defending champion, is tied for second place at +28, with No. 11 Nova Southeastern. No. 2 Chico State is in fourth, three shots in front of WNMU.
WNMU's sophomore duo of
Joon Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Guildford Park Secondary) and
Gordon Webb (Malta, MT/Malta High School) both rebounded from poor rounds Tuesday to post even par 72s to lead the Mustangs Wednesday.
Scott Crichton (Dalgety Bay, Scotland/Inverkeithing High School) and fellow Scotsman
Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland/Bearsden Academy) are the top individuals for WNMU, each holding on to 19th place at +7 for the tournament. Webb is tied for 36th at +10 while
Eric Chavez (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield High School) is T45th at +12.
Joon Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Guildford Park Secondary) is tied for 54th in the 110-player event at +14.
