The WNMU Mustangs remained in fifth place with a 910 Thursday after shooting 302 (+14) in the third round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. Chico State took over the team lead with a team score of 293 (+5). Chico State (898, 34-over for three rounds) leads Florida Southern by one shot heading into Friday's play. Defending champion Sonoma State is currently third at 907 while Central Missouri carded a team-score of 294 (+6) on Thursday to move up to fourth.
Cyril Bouniol (Abilene Christian) and Kyle Souza (Chico State) entered Thursday's round each one shot off the individual lead. Bouniol carded a one-under 71 to move to 215 (-1) for the tournament. He holds a three-shot lead over Souza entering Friday's final round. Brad Boyle of Indiana University (Pennsylvania) shot 69 on Thursday, the best round of the day.
For the Mustangs, senior
Scott Crichton (Dalgety Bay, Scotland/Inverkeithing High School) posted his best numbers of the tournament so far. He finished the third round with an even-par score. His three day total is now 223 (76-75-72) to put him in sixth.
Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland/Bearsden Academy) also played his best round of golf today with a 1-over par. He is now tied for seventh (75-76-73 – 223). The remaining Mustangs were all separated by one shot with
Joon Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Guildford Park Secondary) carding a 78.
Eric Chavez (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield High School) notched a 79, and
Gordon Webb (Malta, MT/Malta High School) followed with an 80.
