WNMU sophomore
Haley Raymond (Socorro, NM/Socorro High School) fired a 3-over 75 to take the first round lead in the Sun Country Amateur Women's Championship Saturday in Socorro. The inaugural event is being contested over a difficult par-72 New Mexico Tech Golf Course. Tech is a difficult layout for most, but Raymond used her home course knowledge in the Championship as she calls Socorro home. She made her way around the track with five bogeys and two birdies to lead by one shot.
A couple of Raymond's former teammates, Shania Berger and Kayla Cline are in second and third place. Berger has another year to go with the Warriors while Cline plies her trade at Division I Winthrop in Rock Hill, North Carolina.
