COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western New Mexico University softball players Mary Othon (Tucson, AZ/Desert View High School), Ricki Gentry (Lakeside, CA/Christian High School) and Stephanie Higgins (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills High School) were named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Third-Team as announced by the conference office.


Othon, a redshirt freshman from Tucson, Ariz., holds a .278 batting average and is tied for the team lead in home runs with 24. She has played in all 49 games this season starting 48. She also has 17 runs scored and nine doubles.


Gentry, a junior from Lakeside, Calif., is second on the team in batting average at .365 and second in RBI with 29. She also has one home run, 10 doubles and has played in 47 games, starting 41.


Higgins, a sophomore from Escondido, Calif., was named to the Preseason RMAC squad and was versatile for the Lady Mustangs playing first, second and third throughout the season. She is third on the team in batting average at .328 and is tied for the team lead in home runs with four. In addition, she has 14 RBI, 32 runs scored and 13 doubles which leads the team.


WNMU opens the RMAC Tournament this Friday in Golden against host and top seed Colorado School of Mines beginning at 1 p.m.
